Bluetongue Status Downgraded in Canada

News articles regarding the change in status of Bluetongue Disease in Canada

The CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency) has altered the Reportable Diseases Regulations and Health of Animals Regulations  changing the status of five serotypes of bluetongue, from federally reportable to immediately notifiable.

BTV Serotypes 2,10,11,13 and 17 (considered endemic in the USA) have been downgraded to immediately notifiable. For these serotypes, laboratories are required to report confirmed diagnoses to the CFIA.

Suspected or confirmed cases of all other serotypes must be reported to CFIA, which then applies control measures.

The changes have been published in Canada Gazette, Part II and on the Canada Gazette website.
